“I’m A Tool to Blogging Trends”    8

Posted: March 30, 2005 @ 04:24 AM EDT | Filed Under: WordPress, Site News and Updates

I am a tool to the latest blogging trends, and I haven’t had time to do much talking about the stuff I’ve been adding to the site, so I thought I’d take the time now.

Let’s start with the Link Blog. The Link Blog is, obviously, a link blog. It’s a short-and-sweet list of links I find while surfing that I think are worthy of mention, but I’m a) too lazy to write a full entry; or b) it doesn’t warrant a full entry. It runs off my Del.icio.us account, thanks to the Del.icio.us Integrator Wordpress plugin. It’s a fun little thing, neat service, though I rarely use it. So that’s that.

Next, Audioscrobbler. Audioscrobbler is a free service where you stick a plugin into your choice of music player and that plugin sends the information to the Audioscrobbler servers. The servers then organize the information and you get your own charts and counts and such. It’s a sweet service. For a few moments, I had a plugin grabbing the info. from the server, but Audioscrobbler went down and slowed down the site, so I took it down. Look for it to make a return.

Last, but certainly well not least, Gravatar. Gravatar is… well, “Globally Recognized Avatars.” You sign up at their site, set up an avatar (gravatar, actually, but avatar is the more recognized word), and you’re good to go. Anyone supporting gravatars in their comments will have a script or plugin that picks up on your email address, hits up the gravatar matching your email address from the gravatar server, and displays it on the site. Go sign up now :D .

So, yeah. That’s what I’ve been doing. I gotta work out a few kinks in the gravatar plugin, but outside of that, all is good. Look for more fun stuff to come.

Falling Into the Groove    7

Posted: March 24, 2005 @ 11:07 AM EDT | Filed Under: WordPress, Projects, Site News and Updates

If you visit here often, you may have noticed a lack of updates, but a lot of updating of the actual site, including new features. There are a few reasons for this:

  1. I’m still trying to get into the groove of exactly what I want to do with this blog. I haven’t quite settled with myself what I want to write about (i.e.: should it just be a web design and development blog, or should I have some personal stuff, too?). This is probably the most prominent of the issues.
  2. I’m busy. Between school, a girlfriend, and other projects (eg.: Exile), it’s hard to find time to write full posts on here.
  3. I’m lazy and anything I want to actually blog (by “blog” I mean posting a link and saying “omgwtf this is great!!!!!1111oneoneoneoneshift+1,” y’know, the old sk00l definition) I just stick in my “Link Blog,” which is actually just a plugin for Wordpress to … “import,” I guess you could say … my links from Del.icio.us (I’m a tool to blogging trends, it can’t be helped, but atleast I can admit it).

So you get the point. But I’ll re-emphasize that basically the most prominent reason is that I’m still trying to fall into the groove of what I want to do with the blog. I’m here though. I’m always here. Always doing stuff behind the scenes (hey, hey, lookie that, the colophon was updated for Version 2).

Something Seems Different Here…    16

Kiss “Clean” goodbye and welcome “Blue Funk.”

Well. That’s what I like to call Version 2, anyways.

Herbie (my computer) and I have been working on this for weeks, so I hope you enjoy the new look. There will be many features to come, so I guess you should consider this a “soft launch,” since this is no where near the finished product of “Blue Funk.” Hopefully, when I’m finished with this, it won’t look quite so unorganized, but for the time being, bear with me. And by all means, if you find any bugs, tell me (but don’t tell me about the changelog and the Colophon, I know they need to be updated, and I’ll get to that later).

For now, though, I’m going to go take a break. Herbie and I are going to go do some surfin’, have some fun, and do what all the other things man and computer do.

Lack of You    9

**I miss you. Come back.**

Version 2 is coming along. I have to work around some Internet Explorer stuff, then I just have to integrate everything into the new design and it’ll be good to go.

**I really do miss you, please come back.**

I’m also working on a new article (inspired by a couple of other articles) that you should see sometime soon. It’s gonna be a big one. I’ve estimated about a week’s worth of pre-writting planning, rough drafts, and other preliminary workings (possible scans to come ;D ).

**Don’t break my heart. Don’t leave me. Stay. Comment. Be… Here.**

Update on Version 2    2

Posted: March 12, 2005 @ 02:32 PM EDT | Filed Under: Site News and Updates

Just giving a little update about Version 2 here.

It’s coming along. Many have said it looks quite nice, so that’s encouraging. I have to do a few more things, and make it work in IE, and then I’ll be done.

Implementation is another matter.

We <3 IBM    5

And IBM seems to <3 us too. Not only are they backing PHP, but maybe they’ll finally get rid of that nuisance that likes to call itself the SCO Group (though the article has nothing to do with the lawsuit). Also in the article, they state that IBM is about to release some thirty-odd number of open-source projects on SourceForge.net, which is good news as well. Read the article. Have fun.

Piper    7

Meet the newest member of my family:

Piper (family name)

I suppose I should elaborate on the “family name” part of the caption. However, to do so, you will have to bear with me as I tell a story from memory:

The Story of “Cow Kitty”
So, my Grandma Tillie was at the hospital a few days before her passing (presumably from emphysema or some other lung disease), and being the everlasting cat lover she was, she decided she wanted a cat. Of course, being in the hospital, and not able to breathe on her own, this was something she couldn’t have. However, my mother, not about to let her own mother down, went and got my grandmother a stuffed cat from the gift shop, which happened to be black and white. Upon recieving the cat, my grandmother said it looked like a cow, and the stuffed animal recieved it’s nickname of “Cow Kitty,” which sticks to this day as it was passed from my grandmother to myself when she passed.

Piper
A few days ago, my mom’s fiancé’s daughter called up my mom asking if we wanted this cat she promised a lady to find a good home for, and it just so happened that we were looking for a cat to keep our other cat (Mocha) company. Once we found out the what the cat looked like, we had to have it. It was black and white. Just like Cow Kitty. So. Of course, we had to name it after my grandmother, so the cat recieved the name of “Piper,” my grandmother’s maiden name.

Concerning Version 2…    34

Posted: March 03, 2005 @ 06:41 AM EDT | Filed Under: Site News and Updates

Now, about the redesign (what will be Version 2) of Milk Carton Designs…

I want some input, from those of you out there who care. Give me some ideas. What do you want to see? How would you like it laid out? I’m putting this in the people’s hands.

Though, if you suggest something pink, prepare for it to be shot down *glances at a certain someone* ;D

Oh. And the tentative version title has changed from “Blue Funk” to “Tangerine Milk,” if that helps (as in, the title is a reflection of where I was going with the design), but is by no means a definite title. And on that point, and since this is a design suggested by the people, for the sake of the people, the new tentative title will be “People Milk.”

So. Discuss. Be active. This is a very broad topic, and I’m feeling like being nice, so I’ll be lenient on comment moderation… so comment away.

The Artist Formerly Known as The Multiple Backgrounds Article    4

Posted: March 02, 2005 @ 09:08 AM EDT | Filed Under: Articles, CSS

[insert Greek-like symbol here]

What used to be here was an article on multiple backgrounds, however, being the dolt I am, I didn’t research before I posted, and the topic I was trying to push to get implemented with what little influence I have, was already thought of and implemented. So. Expect, at some point, a revised article and what can be done with Multiple Backgrounds in CSS3, but until then… Well… You just get to wait until then :P .
