Well, I don’t much agree with the anger in your statement, or how “psycho-fanboy” us mac users are, but it seems to me that you are justified. Again though, people are obsessive about everything. Ever seen a sports debate? It borders on just retarded. Conversations between me and murphy get this bad over everything and anything we can find to split hairs over. The bottom line is this: Like Steve jobs, we are obsessive, and we really don’t like that we haven’t gotten what we deserve, and we are spiteful about it. You never see the kind of windows sites that you see for mac, and it is, it is very stupid. But we need something to talk about, because you know we don’t have much to working to keep them running, like you do on windows.

Really though, all it is is that we feel you would be better off, and we don’t think about what we are actually doing, which is, as you said, driving people off.

True, there are fanboys for every aspect of life who are overzealous and usually misinformed, not to mention blind to any and all arguments.

However, most Mac users are zealots for a reason. Windows users are just that, users, whereas Mac users are followers. Apple probably has one of the most loyal customer bases of any company you can think of. Plus, most Mac users have a right to brag. They’ve used OS X and Windows and have made the choice to use OS X for whatever reason. Most Windows users who trash Apple have no basis for their arguments because they’ve never used OS X seriously. Those who have usually admit that OS X is more superior.

I’d say we Mac users are elitist because we use a better OS and we know it. :) But I don’t think it drives people away from the brand because it’s true, and even if it weren’t, it’s our opinion, and if people are driven away because of it, they’re idiots.

I’m debating with myself right now about whether or not to get a powerbook for college or a windows based laptop. As the many years that I have used mac, I love them for their GUI and it’s easy to be organized and what not, my desktop at home is quite the mess. So I’m leaning towards more of a power book maybe. There is one thing I do pick windows over mac is development. Mac just doesn’t have the sufficient, fast response programs that windows has. I’m sure it will improve over time, but development on a mac can get very frustrating. Programs like DreamWeaver run well in mac, but on a PC I have a much faster, more responsive and more productive experience.

All in all, I would probably choose Mac for personal and Windows for work. But that’s just my personal opinion.

I find that I work/design better on a Mac than I do Windows. Then again, it may have to do with everything looking fresher and cleaner on Macs, and Mac having the power tool that is TextEdit ;D

I bet your development time with textedit is surely not faster than ZDE. With ZDE, I never have parse errors, I only have to save once without going to uploader to upload changes, I only have to type like the first 3 chars of a function, don’t hvae to go to php.net to view documentation because it is built in, and my code always works the way I expected it to. It’s a big time saver. And if you expect to work with others as a profession, you better get used to using these programs like dreamweaver/ZDE because that’s what everyone is using and you will be forced to use it no matter if you rather work in textedit, Simply because they know how to take advantage of the programs to decrease development time and increase preformance.

but dont get me wrong, textedit is fun to edit php with when you’re bored out of your mind in class… but for something more serious, i choose ZDE on a fast windows platform.

In case you haven’t noticed, I am, for 1, not programming with php. For 2,if I’m going to learn a language, I’m going to learn it, not lean on some program I find is atrocious to look at, which kills my want to code. Three, TextEdit drills the code into your head since you don’t have anything else to lean on (except looking it up). Four, stop whoring out ZDE. We know you like it.

I would like to end this arguement with the statement that, the fact that you work in a helpdesk and trash windows based machines with the rest of us discludes you from making such statements. No matter how little you do it in comparison to others, you still do it.

The fact of the matter is that Steve Jobs is an idiot. Anyone want Mac software? Off to the local CompUSA or Apple Store to find that their selection looks like the leftovers of the turkey isle in Wal-Mart on thanksgiving night. There just isn’t enough support for Mac and they need to step it up. I can’t sell anything to a wanting to use Mac student because the Apple Store is the ONLY STORE ALLOWED to give educational discounts. This is beside the fact that they send us stuff after the fact and we get all the cool new stuff about a month late… after word has traveled the we don’t carry it.

Some people like to not have to wait a few days to get software shipped in when they can go to a store with a LIVE person in the customer service department that they can yell at if they have a problem (yes I know you can get it online, I do that with my small sharewares that I can’t find keygens for :-)). Saving 2 days and many shipping charges means a lot to people. And it’s not like you can just ’switch’. HA if it were only that easy… people are cheap packrats and if they’re going to switch they want to be able to bring their stockpile of ancient software with them and if they can’t? Too bad, No dice, they can’t spend the money to come on over because their Word 97 won’t run on Mac and they can’t shell out the $150 (3-license student and teacher edition), $240 (upgrade from preloaded MS Works), $400 to get a nice legal copy of office with whole hearty tech support, or a pirated version and a learn to use office book. Apple is the new Microsoft and nobody sees it. As for me, I have an XP 2800+ desktop and a 1.7 Centrino Laptop and am sitting pretty much on top of everything because I spent so little on them and go to VCU where Office PRO FULL is 70 bucks :-P

Oh and can anyone get me details about what they’re selling off of the iBooks, I want to continue to work on BackerUpper.

Ikkeric: I never said I didn’t hate or trash Windows. In fact, I’d rather be using any *nix based system. Though, the fact that I trash Mac in Help Desk nulls your statement. That, and if the Help Desk switches to Windows next year, I’m not going to quit. I’ll still be there. I’m dedicated to the Help Desk and helping the people and fixing the computers, not the operating system.

What did that have to do with what I said, I just said you made comments against windows. And the fact that you make them about both further proves my point. just becuase you voice your opinion doesnt make you an elitist.

You didn’t just say that I made comments against Windows, you said it nulled my point and discluded me from saying the Mac elitists are idiots; which it doesn’t. The fact that I make comments against both of them means I just have opinions about them. Elitists, on the other hand, will get in your face, yelling and spitting, telling you how much better OS-Y is better then OS-Z. And sure I may get passionate at times about Microsoft v. Mac (just ask Mr. Murphy about the iWork v. Word debacle), but that’s because I know what the Hell I’m talking about and don’t mindlessly rant about stuff I don’t know squat-diddly about, unlike most of the elitists.
