Joey, if you keep deleting things I’m just going to stop posting. It just makes you look bad to censor people.

Also, Im aware of your “comments policy,” but again its just too annoying to deal with. I wouldn’t bother with a site where I cant say what I feel. You know I don’t abuse it.

I know it probably doesn’t matter to you if I stay around, but if you want me too, please dont censor this. Either way you choose you can remove all of the comments when your done reading them. But from now on I ask, ask mind you, that you not delete any posts. Is that ok?

It’s not censorship— You reminded me of something, I noted it, took down the comment because it had nothing to do with the post. You then posted about the comment being taken down, which I removed, because it, again, had nothing to do with the post. I have to deal with comment spam everyday, and I don’t enjoy it too much when legitimate users complain when I take down their comments because they’re not related, at all. I appreciate that you enjoy coming here, and I appreciate you commenting, but if you can’t appreciate me trying to manage it, then— to put it bluntly— tough. This isn’t personal, it’s how I run my site, and I do the same to everyone: Tom, you, Katie, Cam, and so on and so forth. It’s up to you whether you come or go, and honestly, I do care, but please, PLEASE, don’t tell me how to effectively run my site.

The comments will stay, until I do a mass-clean-up in a week or so, where I’ll probably delete some 100+ comments.

And your site, being a freelance web design site, is very rarely on topic on your posts. I mean the post we are commenting on is a blatant attack on a company, something unheard of in a professional workplace. You have your batons, this is a personal blog on a “professional” site. There is no place for that here. But you do it, so why be so hypocritical.

And my site, being a FREELANCE web design site, is allowed to have a personal blog on it, just like so many other freelance workers have. The topic we’re commenting on has everything to do with web design, since knowing the browser 1% of the Internet World uses is part of the business. And I think you’ll find that “rarely” is hardly the word since almost every one of my posts has either something to do with my site, or something to do with Technology, which affects web design. The memes, or batons as you call them, are there because I was bored (though, you may note that the Movie Baton I was not too thrilled on posting, but Tom asked, so I obliged). This is a site to show off my skills, and if I feel that showing off my interests in the blogging community and technology with a blog is what I want, then so be it, because that’s my judgement call, and not yours.

It is call, and my comments are my opinions, not yours. So you dont need to censor them in fear of looking bad.

But as you have the option to delete posts, I have the option to leave. I will be back to post, but Im done for the day. No anger from me as I leave, and I expect not to see these posts when I get back.

I have no fear of looking bad… if anything, having this conversation openly is worse than individually deleting comments. The reason I delete comments is because they’re off-topic.. when things get off topic, they turn into discussion forums, as proven before on this site. It starts out fine, and then it gets out of hand, so it’s better to stop it before it starts.

Back on track. In all fairness to AOL, it was only them updated Netscape 8 to include the security enhancements from Firefox 1.0.4 in to Netscape. It was 3 small patches, and I’m glad they actually updated their code so quickly to incorporate the latest security features from Firefox. Netscape has some nice stuff in it, and is much better for switchers from IE to grasp because Windows Update still works in it. Its ability to switch from Gecko to Trident (IE’s engine) when necessary is a great advantage.

They should have checked for the update before release. It’s not that hard to patch something that’s open-source.

If you change parts of the source, it can be plenty hard. Look at OmniWeb. WebCore is open source, but they still have a hard time patching OmniWeb to include the latest source because they modified the source slightly.

Let me rephrase: it’s not hard to patch something when all you have to do is replace the entire core. If they’re truly using Gecko, then that’s all they had to do. Copy. Paste. :P

They may be using Gecko, but some of the 1.0.4 patches were to Firefox itself, not Gecko. Netscape has altered Firefox code and they had to pick and choose which stuff they needed and how they were going to put it in.

The part I loved most about it was that Ben Goodger criticized Netscape for being insecure when the security holes in Netscape were caused by his own product.

Blech. You have a point, there. They still should’ve done it before release. And Goodger is still the man ;D
