Addition of Asides    1

Posted: August 02, 2007 @ 02:58 AM EDT | Filed Under: Site News and Updates

Just a quick note, I’ve added Asides as part of the content flow on the blog. This way, I’ll be able to increase activity with smaller posts (consisting of mostly links I think are cool and short descriptions), with the occasional longer post. They’ll appear like so:

I Heart Milk Carton Designs    0

Posted: May 10, 2007 @ 07:50 PM EDT | Filed Under: Design, PHP, Programming, Site News and Updates

I just recently launched a new service to complement Milk Carton Designs, called I Heart Milk Carton Designs. It’s a homebrewed solution for testimonials. You can see it in action at iheart.milkcartondesigns.com or on the front page.

It’s been an interesting process. It started with just an image, then grew into a desktop wallpaper, four t-shirts, and a mention on a Technorati Top 100 blog (#64 at the time of this posting).  Pretty cool for a form, some CSS, and a few lines of PHP.

Go check it out and leave a nice note.

Venidici    10

Posted: February 01, 2007 @ 08:42 PM EDT | Filed Under: Blogging, Life, Site News and Updates

It’s been a long time coming, but the day is finally here.

Silky, version 4 of Milk Carton Designs, has been up since August of 2005. At that time, it was certainly a very valid representation of my skills. However, almost a year and a half later, I’m proud to present to you the fresher and newest incarnation of Milk Carton Designs, version 5 (vV), named Venidici. Venidici is so named from a mashup of the Latin phrase “Veni, vidi, vici.” I got the idea to name this new design from, quite simply, the version number. When I saw what version I was on for Milk Carton Designs and realized “v5″ was “vV” using Roman numerals, it almost came instantly to me. Not much of a story, but I like the name. (And people tell me it may be an Italian word— can anyone verify?)

Not long ago, Milk Carton Designs celebrated its 2nd birthday (as one astute observer noticed). Over these past two years, Milk Carton Designs has become very much a part of who I am today. Through the ups and downs of those two years, I always had this. My knowledge, my work. MCD is very much alive to me, and this is my (belated) birthday present to it, a new skin. I’m hoping this fresh look will usher in a rich, new era for Milk Carton Designs, and for me.

As it stands now, there are still some bugs and unfinished aspects of the design. Feel free, however, to contact me about any bugs you may come across. I’ll give you a shiny star for finding ones I didn’t know about— maybe. Feel free to poke around, however. And please also feel free to leave congratulations, criticisms, accusations, hate mail, and any other form of banter in the comments.

Thank you to all who helped me with this new design, including Sissy, Meaghan, Andrew Krespanis, Jim Whimpey, and many many others I’m sure I’m forgetting. Thank you all.

I’m in Random Shapes!    2

Posted: September 22, 2006 @ 12:49 PM EDT | Filed Under: Random Shapes, Blogging, Site News and Updates

I applied to and got in the premier teen blogging network, Random Shapes. Random Shapes hasn’t been around a long time, but it’s starting to pick up a lot of recognition. The people in the network that I have met so far are awesome, so this should be a cool experience. Check out the site (either click the link above or the Random Shapes logo in my sidebar) and, if you’re the IRC sort, come to #randomshapes on freenode.

The jobs keep rolling in for Milk Carton Designs. More and more projects. I’m busier and busier. It’s friggin’ awesome. More please!

Oh, be sure to check out my revised and updated resumé and portfolio.

Kids These Days    1

Posted: May 09, 2006 @ 02:49 AM EDT | Filed Under: Life, Site News and Updates

We just don’t have enough time (I still fancy myself a kid).

Oh, aye, I’m still around. I lurk around here like a thief in the night. I say thief because I can be found stealing my sister’s snack cakes inbetween wondering what to do with this here blog.

Mmmm… Cream-filled center.

Er, ah, uhm…

Ah, anyways. It’s time to breathe life back into this rust bucket. Time to clean up some posts, clear out the junk, organize the site, maybe a redesign (I’ve been wanting to, I just lacked the time for, say, CSS Reboot), and actually let go and do some writing here. Even if you don’t get all of the things above, you’ll get more writing out of me, I think. Things are about to pick up here, with a semi-big announcement to come. The subject of the announcement… Well, it could change my life, or it could waste my time, but I’m going to have fun finding out, along with another select individual (that makes it sound like a serious relationship/engagement… But, no. You’ll see.).

As for you Addictions fans, I know 2.0 seems like vaporware, and it may stay like that, but I’ll try to find time for it soon. I know the idea of Widget-izing it in accordance with the Automattic Widget plugin has been tossed around in comments. As for support goes, I can’t say I’m really giving any right now. But that’s the way it is right now.

For you general readers… Glad you stuck around (I know you’re out there, I have the stats to prove it). I hope this makes your RSS readers and/or web browsers happy.

Home of My Own    3

Posted: March 12, 2006 @ 01:51 AM EDT | Filed Under: Site News and Updates

So, ladies and gentleman, boys and girls, it’s finally done. I finally got my own domain and my own hosting (proud of me, aren’t you?). After a year on a subdomain at my friend’s site, I’ve finally got a home of my own. Nothing’s much changed, except some reorganization. And for those concerned about their links to here, all links redirect to the right spots on this site, so no worries. The site is hosted by Dreamhost and is currently undergoing some minor revisions, but other than that, there’s not much to left to say on the topic. So, expect more updates later.

Burnout    3

Posted: January 23, 2006 @ 07:14 PM EDT | Filed Under: School, Life, Site News and Updates

Those whom are regulars to Milk Carton have noticed that I haven’t posted in a good 2 months– have noticed and have made me quite aware, in fact (Hi Elliott, Anthony, and Katie). I have, however, been suffering from a bit of a burnout.

Blog-wise, I haven’t been able to write because I’ve noticed just… an incredible downhill slide of writing talent from paper to the internet. The stuff I write on here is usually shite compared to what I really can write on paper, and I need to remedy that. I’m also suffering from what I guess could be considered writer’s block. Though I really don’t want to write this post, since I know all of you have seen this from a blogger time-and-time before, I feel it may help to acknowledge in some way that there is a problem.

Along with the above, I’m just mentally and physically burnt out. School, a death in the family, and personal problems have caused a lack of interest in… just about everything. On top of it all, I’ve had no serious Web Design/Developement projects in a bit. Projects help keep my mind off things, and tend to keep me happy, atleast for a few hours.

I like blogging, and I like what I do here, I just have to find a way to express myself as I know I can, and that may take some time. We’ll see, I suppose. Till then, this is what you get.
